Water pump comparision?

As alot of us know if you put a '78 200 in a FALCON you need to change the water pump and use the FALCON pump. I have bought a new FALCON pump and the wheel ( the part that pumps the water) is different. But does the newer one move more water or is it all in the radiator why the cross flow radiator cools better.I know the Radiator is much better. But if the newer pump is better maybe a macinist could chage the wheel.Just thinking. Thanks Ken N.

The "Air Condition" model water pump for the Falcons has an improved impeller wheel. Basically the difference is the plate across the back of the impeller. I do know that Summit and Jeg's carry the plates to add on to "regular" pumps, you might look at their sites.

Not understanding what you are talking about on the "cross flow radiator."

8) cross flow radiators are more efficient than th eolder down flow rads are, because they allow more time for the coolant to shed its heat to the tubes. cross flow rads also tend to have wider tubes than down flow rads giving more surface area for the coolant to give up it heat to.

as for the impeller, a backing plate on the impeller will help reduce cavitation also improving cooling efficiency.

Hey Papaw..

I still have that steel shim headgasket I need to get to you....and the road draft tube. Next time I am in SOIL I will get with you to drop it off.....plus need ot check out this Falcon when you get it back
